First I thought we should talk about where you can find lithium today. The truth is it’s likely on your body right now, you may be holding it in your hand, or you’re looking directly at it. But you might be surprised to know it’s also used in things like tools, aerospace equipment, military applications and backup storage for our Electric grid. And of course, Tesla’s and other electric cars // Looking to buy a Tesla S or X? Use our referral code and instantly receive $1,000 off and Free Supercharging! (limited) Get Started - https://teslanomics.co/td // It is so good for batteries that 39% of all Lithium production goes towards battery production. So what is Lithium anyway? Lithium itself is a soft, silvery-white alkali metal. It is the lightest metal and the lightest solid element. Like all alkali metals, lithium is highly reactive and flammable. So this isn’t something you’d want just laying around your house. Especially if you have a toddler running around like I do... So Lithium is a metal so it must be mined right, like copper? Well, not exactly. It’s true lithium can be mined from rocks but mostly it’s found in brine pools. Lithium is also present in seawater but there aren’t any commercially viable methods of extracting it at this time As an aside when you see a meme floating around the internet showing a giant mine where lithium comes from, it’s a lie. As of 2017, most of the world's lithium production is in South America, where lithium-containing brine is extracted from underground pools and concentrated by solar evaporation. The standard extraction technique is to evaporate water from brine. Each batch takes from 18 to 24 months. With so much demand for lithium it’s a fair question to ask... Are Tesla and others doomed? Well…not really The US Geological Survey’s report for 2017 shows that "Worldwide lithium production increased by an estimated 12% in 2016 in response to increased lithium demand for battery applications. Production in Argentina increased nearly 60%, primarily owing to a new brine operation; the leading Argentine producer also increased production. A producer in Chile reported that its production rose by 20%. Two small Australian spodumene operations, one new and one inactive since 2013, planned to begin commercial concentrate production by year end. Worldwide lithium production capacity was reported to be 49,400 tons in 2015; capacity utilization was estimated to be 64% in 2015 and 71% in 2016. Based on average projections by producers and industry analysists of about 14% growth worldwide, consumption of lithium in 2016 is projected to be about 37,800 tons, up from 33,300 tons in 2015. So the trend is going up, but when you look at the overall picture you find that owing to continuing exploration, lithium resources have increased substantially worldwide. Identified lithium resources in the United States, from continental brines, geothermal brines, hectorite, oil field brines, and pegmatites, have been revised to 6.9 million tons. Identified lithium resources in other countries have been revised to approximately 40 million tons. Identified lithium resources in Argentina and Bolivia are about 9 million tons each and in major producing countries are Australia, more than 2 million tons; Chile, more than 7.5 million tons; and China, approximately 7 million tons. Canada’s lithium resources are about 2 million tons. Congo (Kinshasa), Russia, and Serbia have resources of about 1 million tons each. Lithium resources in Brazil and Mexico are approximately 200,000 tons each and Austria, and Zimbabwe have more than 100,000 tons each. Beyond just producing more lithium, companies like Tesla have focused on creating a closed-loop battery recycling program since as early as 2011. So while Tesla drivetrains are rated to go 1M miles, and the batteries will likely last to last north of 350K miles, once the cars do get turned in, Tesla isn’t going to just throw away those precious metals. If you’re an investor in companies reliant on lithium for their batteries such as Tesla, Apple, Google, or any other company making electronics today, you shouldn’t worry about the supply chain. We’ve got a long road ahead of us and probably by the time we need to worry about a shortage of Lithium we’ll have a new way to make batteries that are even better. // Join Our Community on Patreon! The lithium environment - Lithium Americas Is the current decline a lithium buying opportunity? We analyze the sector and the key factors to watch in the industry. I use a bottom up approach and discuss the company Lithium Americas. We all know the story about lithium and the expected surge in demand coming from the electric vehicle boom. However, some stocks haven’t performed as many expected in the last months and I want to look at what is going on to see whether it is a buying opportunity or we should still stay clear of lithium miners. I’ll use a bottom up approach and today discuss Lithium Americas (NYSE: LAC). By analyzing the company we will see how it fits in the lithium environment and what we have to seek for when analyzing investments as there is a high likelihood that lithium will be the place to be over the next 10 years due to its lightness. Lithium Americas At the end of November 2017 LAC reached a high of $10.95 only to steadily decline to $5 since then while it is at $5.3 as I am writing this. When something in a positive structural trend drops 50% I like to look at what is going on. Investing in Lithium is a long term trend so we have to be careful how we go about it, find the best lithium stocks for our risk reward preferences and be ready to rebalance in a lithium supply glut or recession.

Aside from precious metals, investors were interested in other metals like lithium and cobalt at the Mines & Money conference in New York; and, to newsletter writer Chris Berry, cobalt may be the metal to watch right now. ‘I’m actually more excited and intrigued by cobalt than I am about lithium just because of the fact that almost all of it is produced as a by-product and almost all of it in the tune of 60% comes from the DRC,’ he told Kitco News. The problem? ‘There’s really no way to get pure play exposure,’ he explained. December 9, 2016 -- Chris Reed, CEO & Managing Director of Neometals Ltd. (ASX: NMT), in an interview with InvestorIntel CEO Tracy Weslosky discuss the recent MOU with Mineral Resources, the recent shareholder update, and the significance of the deal with Ganfeng – “the largest most diverse lithium producer in China”. Starting with their progress on the development of a downstream lithium chemical plant that would produce battery quality lithium hydroxide product suitable for direct sales to the lithium-ion battery industry, Chris explains Neometals’ recent milestones and what interested investors may anticipate in the New Year for the company. Tracy Weslosky:  Chris you had a lot of news lately --- a terrific update for your shareholders in that you recently announced an MOU with Mineral Resources to further progress the development of a downstream lithium chemical plant that would produce battery quality lithium hydroxide product suitable for direct sales to the lithium-ion battery industry. Can you please provide the InvestorIntel audience with an update on this MOU please?  Chris Reed: Absolutely Tracy. Part of the transaction with Ganfeng last year was that they’re obligated to purchase the first three years’ production from the Mount Marion Mine. After the third production year, Mineral Resources and NeoMetals had the option then to buyback 51% of the offtake so that we could have a feed for our own downstream processing ambitions. You know, we have long wanted to become an integrated producer of lithium. The first step was to get the mine up and running as a concentrate producer and then in a couple of years’ time, because it actually takes that long --- once you completed the construction of the concentrator operation it takes you a number of years to permit and build a lithium down streaming plant. It is really just an affirmation now that the mine is moving into commercial production, that we are now in the final stages of the evaluation of downstream production of lithium hydroxide and it’s a commitment for both of us to advance that with a view that we can make a final investment decision in early 2017. Tracy Weslosky: Christopher Ecclestone was describing this as a superb deal and that shareholders may not truly appreciate the nuances of this deal. I think what he was trying to say was, number one, you have proven your extraction technology process works and perhaps you’d like to comment a little further about his analysis on this deal.  Chris Reed: I think Chris is certainly one of the few analysts that gets our overarching strategy and that’s one, to get the mine up and running, derisk that, at the same time develop the flowsheet for downstream processing. The deal with Ganfeng and I think one of the misunderstood barriers to entry to the lithium market is actually having a large customer to sell your product to. If you want to start up a good size mine you need to move a load concentrate. You need a large partner. Ganfeng are the largest most diverse lithium producer in China, certainly the fastest growing, multibillion dollar U.S. market cap and the ability, certainly over the last year that we’ve been dealing with them, to raise large amounts of equity. They’re actually moving beyond lithium conversion into cathode production and batteries. As you get further down the chain, the lithium value in that end product becomes less so they become a stronger partner, we’re able to get the mine up, they take a lot of production and then after 3-4 years of production we’re then able to take some of the feed and put it into our own down streaming plant. We’re doing it in two stages rather than having a half a billion dollar roll of the dice to start off with. We’ve done a deal with Australia’s largest processor of minerals where we’ve developed the world’s--- within 12 months we’ve constructed the world’s biggest hard rock lithium concentrator that’s twice as big as the plant down at Greenbushes…to access the complete interview, click here Disclaimer: Neometals Ltd. is an advertorial member of InvestorIntel.

ASX-listed European Lithium Ltd is developing the Wolfsberg lithium project in Austria, and, as non-executive chairman Tony Sage explains to Proactive Investors, it is not doing so from a standing start. The Austrian government backed a previous developer of the mine in the eighties, pumping the equivalent of about a hundred million dollars in today’s money into the project before the mine was put into mothballs after the lithium price collapsed. Fast forward some thirty years and lithium is a hot property, being used in batteries – particularly in the burgeoning electric car market. “A lot of the hard work has now been done for the company, and it’s now up to us to resurrect the old mine and start to get it into production over the next two years,” Sage said. The company still has to sift through a pile of information collected by the Austrians back in the eighties, and it has done a bit of drilling to verify that data. “We’ve now got 6.3mln tonnes going over 1% lithium”, Sage said. The company is mulling two routes to production, and which route it takes depends on the testing the company is currently doing. If the ore is ready to be mined, then some production could be fast-tracked. Over the long term, by the end of 2018 or early 2019, the company should be in full production. “Our aim is to be the very first supplier of lithium from Europe, to Europe,” Sage said. “You’ve got a lot of suppliers coming from South America, Australia and North America, but the cost of transporting the material to Europe is expensive; if we can be the first producers in Europe, we can distribute the product throughout Europe for four or five dollars a tonne.”

November 29, 2016 -- Kirill Klip, President of International Lithium Corp. (TSXV: ILC), in an interview with InvestorIntel Corp. CEO Tracy Weslosky discuss the competitive advantage innate in having one of the world’s leading lithium material producers, Ganfeng as a global exploration partner. Recently announcing the drilling results from the Avalonia project in Ireland, Kirill explains why InvestorIntel European Editor Christopher Ecclestone describes International Lithium as having “battery grade” lithium. Tracy Weslosky: For all of, for our InvestorIntel audience out there I’ve been actually chasing Kirill down for about 3 years now. Has it been 3 years Kirill? Kirill Klip: Yeah, that’s true. Tracy Weslosky: So we’re delighted to have you as an InvestorIntel member and I would love it if you would start by explaining why we were chasing you down and give the InvestorIntel audience a better overview and introduction to who International Lithium Corp. (TSXV: ILC) is please. Kirill Klip: Thank you Tracy. You are very kind to us. International Lithium is a lithium exploration and development company. What really makes us standalone from the crowd is our vertically integrated business model with Ganfeng Lithium. Ganfeng Lithium is one of the major lithium material producers from China and now with them we are exploring on three continents, if you could believe it, in South America, in Ireland and in Canada. Tracy Weslosky: Well as you know --- we agree with you, your deal with Ganfeng Lithium is substantial. I’m going to have you back up and reintroduce our audience to the actual deal that you have because I think it’s really going to affect your market valuation Kirill when our audience understands what this deal is. Kirill Klip: Yes, thank you; very, very interesting and important question. Ganfeng Lithium grown up from $3 million in sales in the year 2000 to more than $200 million in sales last year. Now we have basically lithium top 5 in the world with Albemarle number one, with SQM number two and now Ganfeng and another Chinese company, Tianqui push former three in the world, FMC, into the fifth place. Basically we are making business with $4.5 billion dollar market cap company from China, Ganfeng Lithium, which is now on field with four plays dependent on their searches. We were fortunate we started our business 7 years ago and this year actually we celebrated our fifth anniversary of our IPO with Ganfeng Lithium. Like you mentioned, we can call it the major deal in the whole lithium sector because we are the only one basically an exploration arm of a major lithium producing company. They spent two years studying all our projects, making all due diligences on our properties. In the end they have chosen two major projects, which are now developing with them joint ventures, one of them is in Ireland and another one in Argentina. The Argentina one is called Mariana and in Ireland we have Avalonia project with Ganfeng. Tracy Weslosky: Okay. Speaking of Avalonia project, you just did the mobilization of your drills with Ganfeng. Is that not correct? You just announced this, what, 2 months ago. Kirill Klip: Yes, exactly. Two months ago we mobilized 2 drills following our very impressive results. Now we have up to 9 known pegmatites over there, some of them as large as 500 meters. We have very, very interesting intersections.
